Yaw Obeng is a Scientist, Inventor, and consultant with over 30 years of experience in innovation technology development, and education who works collaboratively with clients to solve difficult problems. Inventor on over 50 US and International granted patents. Co-authored over 250 technical papers and reports.  

Currently, Yaw is Senior Scientist/Research Chemist at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Gaithersburg, MD

Yaw manages external collaborative research programs for micro/nano-electronics technology development including conducting research into new electronic materials for, and packaging of, advanced nano-electronic devices.

Yaw serves as subject matter expert and technical leader in international standards and roadmap development (for hardware security, anti-counterfeiting, metrology, and materials characterization). He currently serves on:

  • ISO TC292 (Standardization in the field of security to enhance the safety and resilience of society), 

  • IEC TC113 (Standardization of the technologies relevant to electrical and electronic products and systems in nanotechnology), 

  • SEMI Traceability Committee (Co-Chair, Develope standards to enable full traceability of materials and other factory resources in semiconductor manufacturing)

  • International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI)

  • International Roadmap for Devices and Systems (IRDS™) / International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS)
